My Work For Save The Girl Child

          I have been in touch with the expedition ‘Beti Bachao’and ‘Girl Foeticide’ since 2001, rather I am the pioneer in this field in Haryana when the male female ratio was 1000:841 in district Bhiwani.

          With our extensive efforts in our surroundings and the activities done to aware the people, the ratio improved up to 1000:900 and district Bhiwani got 1^st position in this field. For this appreciable work I was honoured by Govt. of Haryana and Governor, Haryana.

          This expedition is going on at its full swing now in our state Haryana. For such an awareness among the people the methods that we adopted and the activities that we did during these years are as follows: 

Activities under taken since 2001

Ø Conducted Meetings with youth explained that if there are no women where from will you get a bride?

Ø Without any financial help started street meetings in 2001.

Ø Did Nukkad nataks, met youth groups, Panchayets etc.

Ø Did around 1000 cycle yatras all over the state.

Ø So gradually we were able to prepare groups of people and make it  a mass movement for the awareness of general public..

Ø We awakened the people to honour the girl starting from the time of birth or even before birth.

Ø We motivated the youth ( unmarried ) to  honour the girl child and started the 8th phera(Vow) in marriages. We told them to think of a girl child and name her.

Ø They are encouraged to plant a tree in her name : Called BETI UTSAV VATIKA Usually the preferred plant was of TULSI

Ø Not only this we motivated the families to celebrate the birth of a  girl child the way we do for a male child like Thali Bajana(beating of Thali) and Kuwan Poojan. The aim was that there should not be any discrimination between the two.

Ø We are also Done Ghurchari Of 

Ø The State Govt found this idea innovative and His Excellency the Governor wrote a letter to all District Magistrates to take up the Beti Bachao Abhiyan in all Districts.

Ø This thus caught the fancy not only of the officials but public at large from all castes, and even all religions in  their own way.

Ø To put this thought in a seed form in nascent minds we started oath ceremony in schools and colleges, temples, Gurudwaras and all public functions, marriages etc.

Ø We did not leave any group and even tried to rope in the astrologers who predict the birth of male child. So far about 5 lakh people all over Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh have taken the oath in over 500 functions.

Ø The impact of all this was that about 10,000 Youth joined the movement.  The MD University Rohtak organized a slogan competition on Beti Bachao Andolan and even published book on this matter.

Ø Now it has become a people's movement. This program has taken a strong place in the heart and minds of people.

Ø Beti Utsav Vatikas have been established in some villages and at Bhiwani proper.

Ø The Hon'ble PM also mentioned about this ceremony of taking oath in his speech at a National Seminar at Vigyan Bhawan Delhi on female Foeticide in 2007-08

Ø Now after marriage anywhere in Bhiwani the youth visit our office just to take the pledge and the 8th Vow (PHERA)

Ø Recently the work was covered by IBN7 channel twice and Hissar Doordarshan showed slots of 15 min on this work for almost an year and Delhi  Doordarshan also gave us15 min on the Evening  Live Show,

Ø We are also invited to various seminars, debates and symposiums etc. in school& colleges

Ø In April-May 2008 we took a Chetna Rath all over the state to convey the message with state level function on World Red Cross day.

Ø We visited almost each and every nook and corner of Haryana on this issue.

Ø International media has also recognized these efforts and ART TV of France made a documentary on this.

Ø So much so that on 11 Aug 2009 the Hon Minsiter for Women and child in Govt. of India. Smt Krishna Teerth said that the work of 8th Phera and Kuwan poojan should be adopted by all.

Ø The wife of Hon'ble CM Haryana's also congratulated the said work of 8th Phera and said that Kuan poojan should be adopted by all.

Ø  Hon'ble CM also took out a Cycle yatra on this subject and gave leadership to the movement.

Ø Many saints also lent their support to the movement.

Ø Even NIFA and HIfA Karnal have supported the movement and given us awards of Rs.11000 in 2009 as well as 2008. Hon'ble Governor Haryana gave an award of Rs 20,000 and the Distt. administration gave an award of Rs 11000.I am awaded by Aapsi India with Rs. 1 lakh.

Ø Now we are consolidating a team of volunteers and want to make them ambassadors of  Save the girl child ( BETI BACHAO ABHIYAN) and send them to every nook and corner of the state.                            \

Ø For honouring the girls we are doing functions in the name of girl child.. like Blood donation camps this blood would be used to guarantee safe motherhood to pregnant ladies

Ø As promotion to girls we are putting the girls in technical/vocational courses so as to get them their place in the run of life.

Ø We have made a calendar for the year 2010 to honour save the girl child.

Ø We organized many programmes with famous artists like dancer  Pallavi De to sponsor the BETI BACHAO ABHIYAN)

Ø Bhajan Samrat 'Sh Lakhbir Singh Lakha' sang a song" O Nirdayi Sansar Kuch Soch Kuch Vichar Main Bhi Maan ki ik Kanya hoon Mujhe Kokh mein na maar O Nirdayi Sansaaar"  in his cassette on T-series Parvat pe ik Gufa Suhani to support the BETI BACHAO ABHIYAN. He regularly sings one song on this issue at all his Jagratas.

                                                                                     

Ø We have also started a movement to honour the oldest woman in the village as GRAM MATA irrespective of caste. The State Govt. even gave an award of Rs 1 Lakh to one such Gram Mata namely Channo Devi the oldest woman of the state, of Village Mita Thal, Bhiwani Distt. After when she was highlighted by us.

Ø Youth of many social organizations  have taken up this work and in National Integration camps the 8th Phera and Kuwan poojan have been highlighted.

Ø Art of living Foundation of Sri Sri Ravishankar ji also did Padyatras regarding kanya Bhroon hatya.

Ø The famous saints like Baba Ramdev ,Swami agnivesh, Jainis, Saint Nirankari Mandal,Om Shanti(Brahm Kumaris)etc. all have supported this movement heartly.

Ø I  am also  Brand ambessador of  Aapsi India for Save The Girl Child Camaign.

Ø I am State Media Advisor of Indian Red Cross society Haryana State, Branch Chandigarh.

Ø I am also state Nodal Officer of health departement for blood donation services in Haryana.
